Title: Jan 2003 Featured Bike
Post by: Mick Milakovic on January 31, 2003, 02:51:58 PM
Great looking restoration this month.  Who's bike is it?  I have the same model with an enduro pipe and was wondering if I could modify mine to copy that one.  Also, would it change the power delivery, either better or worse?

That is my bike.  It is a 74 250MX version, small tank and the cut down pipe.  The silencer is not correct, similar but not right.  As far a power delivery I don't know, I have not started it since I finished the project.  Any interested buyers out there?  May be for sale.

Thank you very much for the compliment Mick.  Alot of hard work to restore, but well worth it when done.

Rocket,
Nice job on the resto.  Did your pipe start as an MX or were you able to cut down the enduro pipe?  If you cut it , how did you do it?

I believe that it started out as an MX pipe from the way it looks.  I have cut the pipes many years ago and welded on a silencer.  You will see a weld in about the middle of the pipe, saw or grind just through the one layer of metal and the back section of the pipe will come off.  You have to be back from the weld, towards the silencer, about a 1/4" - 3/8".  Just don't go to deep where it cuts through both layers of metal.  It is easier than it sounds.

 STOP, DON'T DO IT!
Have'nt we seen enough of the destruction?
Please cease the senseless slaughter of what few stock pipes we have left in this world.
Take a moment and just think about the children.

Plus, "stock" is the hot set-up anyway.

I agree, Please don't cut stock pipes. They greatly detract from good machines. I usually will pass on a bike with a cut pipe vs one with a stock silencer and pipe.

Thanks everyone, I'll stick with the stock pipe.
