Title: Steering head bearing size

Can anyone tell me the size of the ball bearings in a 74 400 headset? Thanks in advance

the loose balls are 1/4 inch. 17 in each work better than the 16 called for

Wonder why they only put 16 in?  Anybody know why or have a good guess??
