Dick Mann and which other rider initially developed the rules for professional motocross?
Edison Dye
Rick Terry
Sorry, that should have read....the rules for professional AMA motocross.
Rick, no, not Edison Dye.
John Penton
Next trivia question. Who designed and developed the motocross starting gate system that is still in use today?
My answer was just a shot in the dark. My memory of early MX is not that good.
Rick Terry
Ted Penton?
It was that guy who lost his eye from a bungy cord accident.:)
I'm pretty sure it was marketed under the Hi-Point brand. Would it be...John Penton ?
Scott,
That is correct. I am sure it was a joint effert, but Ted was the mastermind, as far as I know.
Ted Penton, John's brother, lost his eye in a pruning accident.
Oh, I guess that's not that funny then.
Thanks for participating in "Trivia Sunday"
This is fun!! Next question.
What was the color of the coil on the early Pentons?
Black?
How early? Red on my 72 Piner. Dennis D
Early- first group of steeltankers. Not red or black.
That brown bakalite color?
Gray?
Larry is correct!!!! I gave Al Born a black coil to put on V003 as the motoplat coil that is on it now is very conspicuous and incorrect. He said the original coil was gray, as were the coils on the early machines. Turns out he still has the gray coil and will be putting on his machine when he gets a chance.
