Title: Tire question
Post by: crash carden on February 24, 2003, 01:21:10 AM
I'm getting ready to buy tires for my 72 Jackpiner,I see that both Kenda tire & Cheng Shin tire make a vintage metzler copys.Which tire is the best quality? Also do I need to buy DOT approved tires to run in enduro events? Its been 25 years since I have raced in enduro's, I'm sure the rules have changed. Thanks for any info. Crash.

For what you need the C755 4.60X18 is about right for rear. Similar in size to the Pirelli MT16 400X18 ( 110/100X18 )
I prefer the Pirelli's because they look vintage but work as well as any modern tire. I love the MT16 front tires also.  The MT16 400X18 is a bit big for most 125 but fine for 175.

Yes, a 4.60X18 is not bigger than a 450X18 it is smaller. The 450X18 Kenda and 5.10X18 C755 C/S are about the same size. BIG. The 4.10X18 is about the size of a 350X18 or a 375X18. To get a true 400X18 you will need to order the Chen Shin C185A , which is a Barum Copy.
