Title: another tire question
Post by: Steve Minor on March 03, 2003, 08:35:07 AM
Does anybody know if a Cheng-Shin c755 5.30x18 will clear the swingarm and chain on a 1977 400-GS6?

Thanks as always......

I doubt it. Go with the 5.10 or 450 X 18.

That's what I was afraid of.

Dwight, do you know if the Cheng-Shin C755 4.60 is about the same size as the 4.50 Metzler, that was stock on my Penton? I'd like to try and keep the original profile....

Thanks

Probably real close to the 450X18 Motocross Enduro,  MUCH smaller than the 450X18 Multi Cross.  The 400X18 Pirelli MT16 ( 110/100X18 ) is a great tire for vintage bikes. Also modern bikes. The 450X18 ( 120/100 ) MT16 is huge though. I use them on my XR440, XR600, MY new 525 EXC.  The 460X18 is like a big 400 not a 450.   The 510X18 and 450X18 would be about the same size. The 460 is much smaller. In metric sizing it would be a 110/100X18.  If it was me I would go with the 5.10 X 18.

Thanks Dwight....I'll start looking....Got any idea if a C755 Cheng-Shin is available in 5.10x18? I've found both the 4.60 and 5.30 in C755's but not the 5.10....

Got any suggestions?

They used to be.
Try a KENDA K257D  Same style tire. Mezeler copy. I think a better tire rubber compound.
See your Parts Unlimited Dealer
510 =  K25709
450 =  K25708
Hard to tell difference.

USE 300X21 K257D = K25711  I use this a lot on vintage bikes.
