The silver motor didn't come out till 1974 not 1973.  1973 engines were all black. They were still using the Black engines during the ISDT of 1973. What is the serial number of this bike?

Dwight, in actuality most of the 73 250 Pentons I saw and have seen were like this:

Early 73-full black motor

April to August 73-black lower and black head, silver cylinder

September to December 73-silver motor

I am going by production date and the last ones would have red tanks and would actually be 74.  That has been my experience.  Like all Penton stuff, though I am sure there are some exceptions.

FYI:  I have a silver-cased 250 with a build-clock date of 10/73.

Would it be safe to say, all yellow tank 250's have a black motor?  I believe all black motors have a full size clutch cover too.  When they switched to the silver motor's, the tanks were red from what I remember.  If anybody happens to have a silver motor in a yellow tank bike, what is the build date of the motor?
