The last one I bought cost $600.  It was complete and ran. Less "add on" enduro kit.

The last two 1978 250s I bought were not running and I paid $300 each for them and they were missing parts. I'll probably have from $1500 to $2000 and lots of hours in each one by the time they are race worthy. Engines are expensive to rebuild, shocks, tires, chains, sprockets, cables, brake shoes, plastic  sides and fenders, seat foam, bases and covers, fork seals, carb rebuild kits, powder coated frames, grips, levers, gas tanks, etc. etc. etc. all cost money. The only good thing about the rebuild it from junk process is that you know what you have, and you get an immense sense of joy of accomplishment. If you are going to race it, it is the best way to go. PENTONS RULE!!!!
