OK....I'm ready to call Bing to order parts.
PLEASE....someone reply with the proper set up....
It's a Bing 54, 38mm and is for a 1977 400 GS6 and has 54/38/101 stamped on the body.
I believe the float, needle, needle clip, float needle and spring, screen are all the same size for the 54/38. That's not the problem. My question is jet sizes. What size jets do you guys recommend? The only stamping I can fine on the original jets is #320 on the needle jet. Unless I'm missing something, the other jets aren't stamped.
The only manual I have lists the set up and jet sizes for a 75 Mint 400 and this is for a 77 400 GS6 so I'm not sure which sizes to buy.
I'm fed up with the problems I've experienced and perhaps a total rebuild is the answer.
Thanks
Steve
Steve,
i dont have the right #'s for the jets but someone here will. what oil ratio and air filter are you useing? that will make a difference and the guys will need to know that.look at the needle close to the clip groves what # is it. it will probly have lines all the way around. like 2 lines or 4 etc.

Thanks for the response John....I'm using a filter I bought from Al (either Uni or Twin) and 40:1 Castor 927.

Steve i added a bit to my first post and here is something else that could give you a problem . its from an old keeping track and varnish from sitting could cause this also.

Steve:
I have the manual for the GS6 '77, which includes all of the carb specs. I also have the manual for the earlier ('75/'75) bikes. The stock jet sizes (as per the manual) are very different!!
If you have access to a fax, send me the number and I will get this info. off to you.

Mike OReilly.....any chance you could fax that info sometime Friday on the 38 mm, Bing 54 carb? I'd like to place an order in hopes that the parts will come early next week. Again, it's the 1977 400 GS6 setup....Bing 54/38/101 is stamped on the outside carb body and it came with a 320 needle jet and the needle in the #2 (middle) slot.
My FAX is (910) 790-2334
Thanks again
