Title: what is it
Post by: wayne huff on August 27, 2003, 02:46:56 PM
I am restoring an old Penton for a customer and I'm not sure what it is. My Penton days go back to the Sachs era when I went to Penton school at the factory in Lorain Ohio. I met John and the boys and got to ride thier 6 day bikes in an orchard with snow on the ground.
This Penton has an orange fiberglass tank with leather strap frame#54604 89480 eng# 6-520-8696 thanks

From the frame serial number you have a bike that was manufactured in April of 1976 and the motor is a 175 according to the 52 in the motor serial number.  I would say you have a 76 175 GS6.  Do you have a fiberglass air box or is it aluminum?  The GS6's had aluminum and the older one's had the fiberglass.  How about a picture?

Hi Rocket
this one has a fibreglass air box, I have it dissassembled now but I'll try to send some pictures of the pieces later today. The customer, an avid active KTM rider thought it was a 300 but I thought it was a 175. Thank you very much.
