Title: crankshaft weights on penton 400
Post by: thedish on September 29, 2003, 08:28:29 PM
Can anyone out there tell me how to tell if a 400 is the later type with crankshaft weights.  This was suppose to tame the beast some and make it easier to ride in the woods.

Motors with serial numbers higher than 2808 have the flyrings on the crank. I believe this occured in late 74 or early 75 models.

iguess this weights were specially mounted on the"GS" cranks, means the enduromodels here in europe. due to the fact, that the most "enduros" in the states were changed MC models, they hadnt the flywheels. The weights gave more power in the lower range of the engine, which was more necessary in the enduro models

In the states all engines after the serial number above had the flyrings.
