Don and Dave,
1/2 x 5/16 (pitch x width) is 428 or 428H chain.

The difference between the 428 and 428H is that the link plate is 0.5mm thicker on the 428H (I changed units on you) and 0.2mm SHORTER in height than the 428.

This makes the overall width of the inner and outer links of the 428 chain, 16.85 and 18.85mm, respectively.  While the 428H chain has inner and outer links of 18.75 and 20.3mm.

Don
Stick to the 428 chain and not the 428H as the links are too wide for the chain block and will rub the lower chain guard.

Number 40 chain will also work.  Much cheaper if this is for a restoration project and not a racer.
