I have shipped three or four different bikes on truck lines and each has been a little different. All require the fuel to be drained. One (either Allied or Atlas) took the bike "as is" and just rolled it into the back of the truck and strapped it to the wall. That was one that was pretty beat up and they couldn't really hurt it. One I strapped onto a pallet and covered with moving pads to prevent damage. It seems like they didn't care much either way. I think it is mainly up to you how careful you want to be. One (USF Dugan) required a crate. Your best bet is to call around.

John Hardin shipped a bike from Illinois to New York. I think he used Yellow Freight, but I'm not sure.  Maybe he will catch this post of send an email directly to him.
