Title: 400 engine changes 74 - 77
Post by: vmx1963 on February 16, 2004, 08:07:59 AM
Can someone tell me what changes occurred in the 400 engine between 74 and 77?  Outwardly they appear very similar.

The biggest change I think is the LH clutch cover, Bobby Lucas is a Guru..something about the oil scavenging is better on the later cases, something you may also see is the difference in fibre plates, seems early had real simple squared pattern of the raised portions of the pads, later ones might have had angled pads that when installed properly will "fling" the oil outwards away from the hub. Was in one of the Keeping Tracks. Issue number 4 Fall 1999..How's your Coriolous Effect??? Did I type that right....Adios from Denver......

Coriolis effect: the apparant deflection of a moving mass of water, air,or engine oil, etc.. to the right in the Northen Hemisphere, and to the left in the southern Hemisphere. Plummers are familiar with this effect,
