Title: Main Bearings - 1 or 3 piece
Post by: vmx1963 on March 22, 2004, 08:18:56 AM
My 175 is denuded all over the workbench at last and lo... 1 piece main bearings.  I've read on the forum about the original bearings being 3 piece (outer race, cage, inner race?), so will I be offending the Penton gods if I just replace with similar 1 piece bearings?  [?]

vmx1963,
I don't know who you will be offending, but the 3 piece bearings make splitting and assembly so much easier.

Thanks Rocket, the best thing about the 1 piece bearings is they give me two less bits to lose in the shed. :D

I don't know what the primary drive looks like on the 175. If the primary gears is straight cut, go ahead..
If not, well, don't....

Splitting is easy anyway. Heat up the entire thing to 150 degrees celsius and lift the case half away!
