Title: Piston Coatings....
Post by: DKWRACER on April 08, 2004, 06:48:42 PM
Did just recieve my 400 Piston from Swaintech in NY....hi zoot coating on the dome and the skirt all the way to the bottom of the bottom ring. These guys do know their stuff and do wonders with both 2 and 4 stroke motors, I was able to grow the piston by .002 so I can now run tighter clearance and forgow a refit of new piston for another year...
They have a Website and a tech question email address..http://www.swaintech.com/
Adios......

At approx. 46.00 for the dome and skirt coatings, seemed reasonable.....

I had all my pistons coated last year by Performance Coatings in Texas. Bobby Lucas turned me on to them. (817) 274-1947. They put on a ceramic coating on the dome to help spread the heat load across the piston and a moly disulphide slippery coating on the skirt of the piston to reduce wear. They do a good job, I can not tell you if it makes a big difference or not because due to a stinking worn out Bing carb, I lost the pistons in two engines. In theory, what they do should be good. They charge about $35/piston.
