Nigel, I have a 73 penton trials that has a 72 tooth on the rear and a 13 tooth on the front.  I have had this one for almost 30 years. The rear has never been changed  but not so sure about the front.

I have a low hours bike that has a 14/64. On my competition bike I am running 11/62. If you are going to ride trials you will want to get it geared low. If it is a resto be carefull not to get the rear to large for the chain guide and chain gaurd.
