Title: Steering head fine tuning
Post by: tmc3c on June 14, 2004, 10:05:41 PM
Can anybody tell me when adjusting the steering head nut down on the triple clamp on a 76 250, do you still have a little of play forward and aft after everything is tigtened up? I get to a point where it won't turn to play inthe bottom race. Thanks Guys

Check closely that your bearing races haven't pounded out the frame where they fit in the steering head. The races are only about a quarter inch thick and don't go very deep into the frame. The Penton repair manual recommends replacing the frame! if this happens. I have used ultra-high strength epoxy and shim stock to repair this before and so far it holds. Hope this isn't your problem, but thought I would give a heads up.Wildman
