Title: The Vintage Ride in Michigan
Post by: wildman on June 16, 2004, 10:32:25 AM
The Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan-Capital Chapter, puts on a vintage trail tour every year. This year is September 25-26 at the Traverse City loop. There is a Vintage bike show with trophys given to the top 6 voted machines. Last year I won 6th place with my 1975 Penton 250 CC and got a real nice engraved crystal decanter trophy. My bike looked OK but first through 4th were immaculate, of about 20 bikes showed. You may ride your vintage bike or a modern bike, but must have a spark arrestor and less than 94db. Normally, CCC membership is $20 yearly, but last year nonmembers were allowed to sign up for the event, cost per day $10. The ad for this year isn't out yet, so I will post details when available. Maybe a Penton can get first place this year, but it must be perfect to compare to the previous years winners (250 Bultaco Alpina, 250 Elsinore)  PS.the CCC puts on a trail tour about every 2 weeks from May to October including the Six Days of Michigan, I go to almost every one, they are a fun trail ride at your own pace, win a prize if your name is randomly picked. A awesome ride this June 26-27 is the Phil Bean Memorial trail tour at Wolverine, MI. Free pig roast afer the ride, lots of prizes, even a drawing for Suzuki drz110,CCC trivia contest(hard). Com'on up!. Wildma Dan Pagel

We went to a CCC run a few weeks back and it was a good run and a very nice bunch of people.  I am amazed at how organized they are and how well documented (including GPS) their trails are.  They also have a strong dual sport group.  Traverse City looks like it is right on the Lake.... is the run pretty flat and sandy?

I did some checking wth my riding buddies and we remember the Traverse loop as sandy with some good hills and somewhat whooped-out. We used to start the "Rites of Spring" 1st Trail Tour of the year from Ranch Rudolf. Most of the trails in lower Michigan get used a lot and are well broken in. I usually ride my newer bike and display my vintage bike, but you will see some old bikes on the trail, maybe this year me. BTW, I forgot, you need a ORV sticker for each bike, $16.25, goes to state ORV fund. You don't need  sticker to display. I'll try to answer any other questions or go to //WWW.cycleconservationclub.org and check it out. Thanks, Dan Pagel
