Title: 2005 PENTON CALENDAR
Post by: Randy Kirkbride on June 22, 2004, 09:10:41 AM
I've deceided to tackle a project I've been thinking about for some time.
A Penton calendar.
I need good quality photos of anyone who wants to be on the calendar. However, there are only 12 months in the year so I will not be able to use all of them. I'll try to pick out the most interesting ones. I prefer color pictures but will consider anything. They can be action shots or just bikes, but only Pentons. Need names with pictures, too.
Send hard copies to PO Box 191, White Cottage, OH 43791. If you want it returned, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
You can also email pics to //[email protected]
Don't put this off. I need to get busy on this so they'll be ready in time.
All proceeds from the sale of calendars will be donated to POG.
Thanks

What a great idea! Perhaps some of our more well connected members can obtain some historical pictures from "the day" that you can include.

Randy,  How are you set up for printing the calendar?  I took a shot at producing a calendar for our local sanctioning body and few years ago and found that the cost to print it in color, is attrocious.  I forged on, with the intention to at least produce the thing in black and white, but despite plenty of advance orders, still could not justify the cost.  Hopefully you already have this part figured out.
Good luck.  TED

Hi Ted,
I figured on printing them myself.  I reproduce lots of pictures & thought I'd like to try it. You're probably right, if you had them commercially done it would cost way too much.  We'll see how it goes as a first timer.
Thanks

Randy,
As always such great contribution.  If you make a decision on the direction of pictures let me know and I will see how I can help.  I just see all types of possibilities.  You could do old racing pictures, new racing pictures, new restorations, old unretores bikes or a mixture of all.  It might be interested to feature a picture of a a bike with the owner and a bio of owner or bike.......just let me know if I can help.

If you want to consider an action shot I can send you the double jump picture that Cycle News ran of me skyshotting at the Berwick Pennsylvania AHRMA National in 2001 on the 77 250 MC5.  I think I showed it to you when you were here.  It was a jump that was built for Ricky Johnson to practice on back in "The Post-Vintage Day".

Larry,
Send it!  Action shots or still photos. I've got some great pics to chose from. I think the hardest thing is going to picking which ones to use.

Good for you, Randy.  It seems obvious from the responses that you should be able to cover expenses on the calendar.  Any chance of putting on the cover, that classic shot of Jack, in the water crossing, at the '73 6-Day?  That has to be one of the all time greatest off-road motorcycling photographs ever.

Before seeing this post, I had been wishing that we could set up an area at Mid-Ohio with a computer and scanner.  Scanning is rather tedious, but we could keep it going all weekend (with enough wine, black coffee and bon-bons, I would be good for several hours [:p]).

I was hoping we could capture some of the best of the best photos and some of the best Penton magazine articles.

Any room to set up something like this?

Randy,

I have too busy to check the POG site for quite a while. I have a picture of a Piner doing a wheelie at speed during an AHRMA Cross Country at Casey ridden by yours truely. I'll bring it to Mid Ohio. I bet your calender could easily have two pictures per month.

Randy,
I will be making a order, but I wish you would reconsider donating the money to the POG and instead use the profits to continue making other hard to find stick on labels.
As much as I don't want to be misunderstood on not taking care of POG I think your VERY IMPORTANT work and research on the reproduction of the stickers is  a extremely high priority project.
  Again just my take.

Ron & Bob,
Thanks for the kudos.  I really enjoyed doing the calendar, and I'll continue to work on the stickers, but I'll still donate the extra to POG so I don't drive my bookkeeper nuts. :D It'd be nice to make the calendar an annual project and get others involved, too. There's a lot of great looking bikes out there, so I don't think we'll ever run out of pictures.
