My 250GS -81 is running again after a complete resto.
We're gonna get the final answer regarding the ballbearings VS the split bearings at least!
Upon recieving trustworthy recommendations to use ATF oil. I'm doing so and surprise.. the clutch is just unbelivable perfect. I have heard that a mix with 15, 25 or 50% Mobile1 or something in the ATF is good too. I a kinda like that idea, figure it make sense!
What is the experiences doing so over here?

I have never used the mobil 1 on anything but my trucks. I did have a friend that had a big Yamaha and used it and he said it made his clutch slip.

That was very good thanks for the entertainment.
Dirt Bike,
You did a great job. I wish we all had cams and could send in vids of times like that.

dirtbike,
The ATF trick is on we used for top races to cut friction, but the clutch plates will slip after a few hard motos. Same with Mobil 1. If you are not all out hard on the clutches and have a ready supply I would use ATF. The next consideration is it does a number on load bearings, but again if you are not real hard on the bike it doesn't matter.

Dirt Bike, that was cool. Nice bike...
I have been using ATF in my 250 and really have not had any trouble. The only things that sort of was a problem was last Dec. when we rode the whole race under mud. I started having some trouble with some slipage. I had to re adjust the clutch lever but other than that I have had no trouble. Even that hour long cross country race with all the tight trails and deep ruts did not cause me any trouble with my clutch. I can see if I was riding in alot of deep sand or up alot of steep hills it might be a consideration to use something else. I may even use a more traditional wet clutch oil for the winter time. Like maybe Golden Spectro.
Thom Green,I own and ride a 76 250 MC5 MX which I bought new.
