Well we did get the center cases back together but the gasket was not helpful and I had ordered a new center gasket. when I got home and when the gasket showed up for Al. 4 days wow that was cool. I opened it up and replaced the center gasket. I got it back together and noticed that the sealing plate would not seat correctly. The right crankshaft bearing race is sticking out of the case an 1/8 of an inch. this does not seem right to me. could we have moved it in the process of putting it back together? We did have some trouble. When we took the center cases apart on Saturday the trust washer on the left side of the countershaft had come loose we had forgotten and some how it ended up with the other trust washer that sits on the left side of the shaft that the clutch runs on. We ended up with two trust washers on the same shaft and we had had problems getting the cases to sit properly. when we took it apart and figured out what went wrong and put the other washer back were it belonged, the cases went right together. But now I am wondering if in the process of tapping the case into place the first time we had moved the right side crank bearing. Is that possible and if so what am I going to have to do to fix it. Jon is unavailable for a few days and would like to fix it soon so that I can blow him in the weeds...:) Hey he started it...[8D]
Thanks for your help.

I think we have found the problem...[:I] While we were taking the enging apart we had broke a screw off in the seal plate, I had tried to get it out but could not, not in the time we had, so we used another one that was jon had. They looked the same but evidently they are not. On the 400's the race does stick out of the case...must be because of the larger crank... Any way Jon did call me last night and he looked at the one that had been on the bike and compared it with another one from a 250 motor and found that there is a recess in the one that came on the 400. On the 250 motor the race is flush with the outside of the case, which is consistent with the seal plate that came on the motor. This would account for the difference and why the race sticks out on the 400 and the seal plate allows for that. [^] Good news it had me worried because if the race fit in the case and could be moved that easy then maybe something was wrong with the case and would have to be taken apart and fixed. It could have led to a spun a bearing.. not good. Any way thanks to all for even considering what could be the problem. I should know more in a day or two when the othe seal plate shows up. Thanks everyone. boy do I feel kind of dumb.:D

Bill,
I heard that terry had a great time, He went home and licked his wounds, I guess he just had too much fun.
Sad note when he got back he discovered that he was broken in to. The bikes were safe but they did take some others things. looks like it was kids, none the less it feels like you have been violated. Which is always the tough thing.
I look forward to meeting you some time in the future.
