Title: Wiseco Piston I.D. help
Post by: 3putt on June 30, 2004, 07:15:59 PM
Does anyone have an old Wiseco Model I.D book ? I have subject piston # 168P6 for a Penton 125 and wanting to know what it fits.  I know it is +60 over.  It has a window on the intake side just below the rings, and I suspect it for a reed valve engine.  Also wanting to know what engine the Wiseco model # 163 piston fits.   All I have is the 73 and earlier engines, both alloy and iron cylinders.   Will the same piston fit both the alloy and iron units for 73 and earlier ?   The Wiseco Web Site no longer refers to these numbers or anything that age.  I tried the obvious and called Wiseco for direction, and the young fellow I spoke to was NO HELP !!  All he would tell me was both fit Penton 125 bikes, age unknown.   When I ask if he could reference the archives for help, he told me they when out with all the old people that worked there.  Any help appreciated !   THANKS!!

Nelson,
This may or may not help. We have a 75 Hi-Point catalog that lists pistons ( Wiseco) sold by Penton for 100's and 125's.
They are listed buy these #'s
Old Style Penton Pistons ( Iron Barrel we believe)
Size     100cc Piston   125cc Piston
Std      137-100-00    138-125-00
.010     137-100-10    138-125-00
up to .040 over
New style Penton Piston ( aluminum cylinder I believe)
Size      100 cc         125cc
Std       137A-100-00    137a-125-00
.020      137A-100-20    137A-125-20
up to.080 over.
Maybe Doug or Daine could shed some more light on what Wiseco #'s were use in the Iron and aluminum barrel Sachs engine Pentons.

That piston is a 60 over piston for a 125 KTM motor and will work in the KTM 125 in 1976-78 perhaps more.  The window is for the booster port.

While you are doing pistons I have a KTM piston I just found.  The number is 51-30-007-304 . I don't have my books with me and was wondering what year etc.  Any help from you or anyone would be appreciated.

Nelson,
Looks like John and Larry have the info you need but just to add to it, the Wiseco catalog (copy of a catalog) that I have lists the following for 125's:

#168 piston for "Penton Sachs 125"
#462 piston for "KTM, Penton 125 thru 1982"
#404 piston for "KTM 125 (Repl by 462)"
#397 piston for "Penton, KTM 125"

That is all I see on the 125's, no other data on specific years.

To John, Larry, and Andy;  Thanks for your input.  I guess safe way is to keep an old one available for comparison if you can get your hands on a potential replacement.  Always keeping eyes open for a back-up when it comes along.  Best Wishes,   Nelson
