Title: Footpegs with Springs
Post by: firstturn on August 16, 2004, 09:50:33 PM
Sometime back there was a discussion on how to install return springs on Penton footpegs.  Although I believe the discussion was on later Pentons, with later footpegs, there is a good example of someone putting springs on the mid year Pentons.  Here is the location on ebay.

Ron,
The parts book for the early MC5 shows pegs; part number 55.03.040.000 with Springs; part number 55.03.041.000 for all models, 125, 250 and 400. They look the same size. This is what the photos on Ebay look like.

Thanks Ron,
MY 76 did not have peg springs but the 78 does. Since the pegs on the 78 were worn I pulled the newer pegs that I got from Al and put them on the 78.... they went right on and I used the bolt, spacer and springs. It looks to me like I could do the same thing to the 76 if I had the springs, the spacers I could make.  Donny do you have them?
I seem to have this irratating habit of getting the left footpeg stuck in the up position. Having it spring loaded would be of help.

Thom Green,I own and ride a 76 250 MC5 MX which I bought new.

I have put the MC5 springs on all my vintage racers. You just need to drill a small 1/16" diameter hole in the frame bracket near the footpeg to hook the spring into. Then use a longer bolt to hold the spring. I have not bothered with making a spring bushing. I got tired of the pegs flying up and staying up when going around corners.
