Title: 1970 Penton six-day-125 cc
Post by: louk on August 29, 2004, 09:30:04 PM
I bought this bike new in 1970. It has never been raced. I used it for fun only. It's been in the garage all it's life and still runs. I am thinking of selling it. Can anybody tell me what the bike is worth.
Thanks
Louk

Louk, I hope you'll decide to keep it...the original owner for 30+ years!...you are the kind of person we'd love to have join our group. I'm sure you'd enjoy showing off that wonderful machine, sharing some stories, and meeting the men and women of the P.O.G. You won't find nicer, more interesting motorcycle people anywhere.
Good luck, send me a line.

Louk.....I'd like to echo Bob's thoughts and his welcome. Please consider keeping your Penton. You just might regret selling it after all these years!

I agree with Rob, Steve and Ron. You will NEVER EVER own a NEW Penton again. Most of us here wish we still had our first Penton and many are on a quest to track their first one down. Please think about keeping it. Hind sight is 20/20.

I wish that the Penton Owners Group could own this one.
Never, since the day you could see them new on the showroom floor, have I seen a nicer original Penton.
I see it being our mascot, and a fixture as our show display bike.
Then it could get all the attention it rightfully deserves.
It's a great year and model and such a delight to look at.
Is it even slightly possible, you can tell me I've gone mad.
This way everyone would own a piece.
We could even name it Louk.

Bob

I'm voting w/Rob W.  And yes, the bike's name is definitely "Louk".
What, your bikes don't have names?  Ted G.

Well almost 6 months later I own Louk, the Penton named Louk that is.  I just received it today and it is a beautiful bike and I am honored to own it.  It is every bit nice as the pictures indicated and the past owner was just a real gentleman to deal with.  He did everything he could to help me get the bike to Texas and I really appreciate someone who goes the extra mile to help get a bike shipped.

Several things to mention.  The bike came with a letter from Doug Wilford (Penton Imports 1972) with information how to beef up the rear engine mount.  Neat piece of history.  It also has the original reciept for $700.00.  Unfortunitely the dealer was basically selling out of his garage, quite common in the early days, and doesn't even have his name on the bill.  So if anyone reading this that knew of or bought a Penton back in 1970 from a dealer in Kennewick Washington I would be interested in any information.

For those of you new to the site you can go to Penton Talk and look under Cool Bike title and see pictures of this bike.  I hope to use this bike to help others in the future to restore bikes back the way they came originally.  Don't get me wrong there are some people in this club that could restore a bike to it's orignal condition without looking at Louk.

On a final note to finalize the deal I promised Louk a Penton Hat autographed by John Penton.  Time to go look at Louk one more time.[:p]

Ron,
I am pleased to hear Louk is now in your care. It's comforting to know that you have it. Thank you for bringing Louk to us, I can't wait to see her.

Will this be the first time you've ever seriously thought about asking Mrs. Sherriff about bringing one inside the friendly confines of the den?

Please tell me more, How many total riding miles or hours do you figure it's ever been ridden?
How has it aged in the manner of storage it was in?
I've got to say I'm happy for you, and the POG, it's an incredible find! What a beautiful example of a original Penton.
Thanks Ron.

Bob

Rob,
Thanks for the kind words and the great definition of Louk.  Actually I have always had bikes on display in my house even after getting married 10 years ago.  It is just now I only have one or two.  I just sold a Brand New 1966 Honda 160 Scrambler so Louk will take its place just the house.
I haven't really looked at the bike as close as I will after I get it on a lift, but here are tha answers to you questions.  I would guess the bike has less that 100 miles.  It was always stored inside so it has nice paint.  Just a well cared for bike from a person who emigrated to the USA in the 60's from Holland and takes care of his property.  I find it funny how you and I both told the guy to keep it and he thought about it for a couple of months.
Anyother questions I will try to answer.

Ron Carbaugh
