Title: triple clamp removal
Post by: clayman on January 01, 2005, 04:00:39 PM
Could someone cue me in to the correct way of removing the complete front end (then the triple clamps after the removal) off of my 1971 steel tanker? I struggled for a bit, then decided to give it a rest, as I don't want to damage anything. I want to remove the entire front end so that I can give my friend, Bob Wardlow, the front forks for his short tracker project and keep the triple clamps as a backup set for my bike.:)

Support bike so front is off the ground. Remove all allens/bolts in the clamps.  Remove steering stem nut. Remove both fork tube caps.  Either twist and pull the tubes out of the bottom or take a rubber hammer and tap upwards on the top clamp until it comes off.  There you have it!  Don't worry about the bearing balls, they are $4 a box!
