Guys, I remember someone mentioning a while back that they needed a rubber airboot I think it was. But suppliers are out of them. I repro other motorcycle parts that come out perfect. If you need some for your pentons let me know what is most needed. I can do total orders of 5-10 and come out ok. Just thought I'd lend a hand if needed.

Keith, I'm interested in a boot for my 6 Day. My only question and maybe the membership can help. I have a reed valve, the cylinder has been machined out to accept the reed, will the standard boot still work? [?]

Airboots for the 76-78 Bing carb models are very scarce,i.e., 125,175,250,400. I know Al Buehner has had the 72-75 airboots redone. Anyone else out there? Thanks in advance for considering taking this on;)
I'm in Omaha, NE. I could start with the 76-78 airboots for the bing carb bikes. Is it the same boot for all or something like 125-175 use same boot and 250-400 share same boot. Hopefully everyone will chime in and we'll see what the demand is. I would need a nos boot to repro from, the process will not hurt the nos boot at all. A preliminary cost would be around $40 maybe less well see, I don't know how big that boot is offhand.
Keith
Guys,
I have a NOS airboot for the MC5 bikes. I would be willing to let it be used to make a mold for these models. I recently purchased the same repro boot from the guys at ozktm. The boot looks rough because the the boot used to make the mold was rough. I will use their boot for my race bike and NOS boot for the bike I am restoring. Let me know how I can help!

There are a total of three different air boots that fit the 76-78 MC5's. My 76 has a simple boot that fits over the air box and carb. not special molding to it at all. My stock one gave out 20 years ago and I found a new... old Husky air boot that I used. I needed to shorten it a bit but work fine. The 78 is shorter and the hole for the carb is offset over the hole for the air box. The third boot looks like the last one I described but it is longer to allow for a larger gap between the air box and the carb. When I went to a Gem reed on the 78 the stock one would no longer work.. is was not long enough. so I used my back up for my 76. In my opinion the stock 76 boot does not work as good as it could and I think the factory knew that and changed it for the 77/78 models. If I remember right. Mac's airboot on his 77 looks like the one I discribed was on the 78...

Is anybody going to reproduce the boot for Pentons with Lectron carbs? Will the Bing boot fit?
Chris
I can reproduce the lectron boot if you have a nice nos boot for me to copy. Let me know!

We already have a range of parts that Rob Wager is making here in Australia.
As parts are not in a plentiful supply down this way, we have resorted to making our own.
The dollar is in your favour with US$1 = AUD$0.76

Interesting choice of colors on the non black items. Great you guys have taken this on. Appears some of the airboots are small and certainly wouldn't cost $40 for me to do them either. A few have responded but not a lot so the need may not be great anyway. If poggers need me I am happy to make molds and pop out the perfect rubber peices. Vintage guys usually do like sources in their own country though, kinda like what OZKTM has done.

Hello all. Greetings from sunny Australia. I was told you all were talking about our penton parts and guessed I had best have a look. I don't get much time for the chat groups. Besides making Penton/KTM bits I am a biologist by training, a plumber and urethane tech by trade, a fish farmer by occupation, a KTM (1978 and evo 1981) racer and an observed trials competitor for fun, and I keep zebras finches as well. Fortunately my family enjoy it all too so I get to see them.
A bit about the parts we make. It is all Brad Lewis' fault. He had a commercial guy making some bits and it was costing him a fortune. He spent many, many thousands of dollars having molds and bits made just so that he could restore a collection (museum) of KTM bikes that he is trying to put together. There is no such thing as NOS parts here. Other guys started asking him for bits and a loose group formed and called themselves ozKTM. I came along and volunteered to help out, not only Brad, but the other guys here that needed bits. Long story short, I ended up with Brads mold collection. The commercial guys heart wasn't in it and some of the parts relfected it. So I have been trying to improve them ever since.
We are not a business, just a bunch of guys with an unhealthy and somewhat obsessive interest in the best bikes in the world. We sell the parts to cover our material and mold costs, and maybe a little to put back into buying NOS parts so that we can have better bits to offer. We occaisionally get sent NOS parts to copy and we are so so grateful to those folks. We send them back their original parts undamaged, and give them a bunch of perfect replica parts for them to use or share with their mates. When we can't get NOS parts we try and rebuild an old, used part and then copy it. We have varying amounts of success but some look a bit ordinary, but the bits are always servicable. I hate sending them out but often anything is better than nothing. Recently I hooked up with a felow who operates a CNC lathe and he is helping out with recreating bits that we cant get. These bits look incredible.
In the ozktm website there is a bunch of red parts. I did this so that they would photograph better. The parts can be any colour you want, but are normally black
I understand postage from Australia might be an issue. But we are happy to send them in bulk if POG wants to organize something. And I know that US patriotism runs strong and that buying US is always more comfortable. If it helps I was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I retain my citizenship and I even drive a Jeep and a Ford Exploder. (although I definetly talk like an Aussie, mate)
Anyway sorry for the long post. Please let me know if I can help you,
Hooroo

Keith, The early magura lever covers on steel tankers seem to be in short supply and always bring crazy prices on ebay. There's a pair on now that ends today that has a very good picture.

Hey, Check out "Rob 201"s web page. Wow! These guys are really putting a great effort into making parts. Am I just getting slow in my old age or did others already know about this page. This is cool!

Dennis I think Al Buehner may have all the Magura covers anyone would need, Early ones not the naugahide.
Dennis, Your right, I was watching the ISDT lever set on Ebay but lost interest when it went above $100 bucks. What also seems to be in short supply for Magura Lever sets are the orange plastic "star" adjusters. I have 2 broken ones, seems like we need an injection molder connection as well.
Chris
Doug, Al told me after a set went to the moon on ebay someone bought all he had:(

Am I missing something here, or are a bunch of us yanks ignoring the work and effort already done by the Aussie vintage comrades, as evidenced by the wide range of well-priced rubber repro parts offered at ozktm.com? Seems like they can make just about anything else needed too.
For one, I searched high and low w/ zero success in all corners of the US for '77 KTM carb boots until I landed on Brad Lewis's repros there. Sure, it took a couple of weeks for the mail to work...but I sent like $18 US cash and he sent the part (including cost to mail) with a very nice explanation letter of variations and "I hope it works"...and "send it back to exchange if any problems". Cheap, pleasant, easy if you can live with the vast complexity of international postage.
Maybe Al B or some other suppliers can buy a truckload or varieties to have on hand for those guys needing 3-day delivery and pay by credit card, but by all means, I suggest anyone wanting a reliable parts source for future years ought to support and take advantage of Adrian, Rob and Brad and keep these guys cooking up more products!
Mac
Thank you and the other guys for your support BIG MAC. Comments like yours makes it all the more worthwhile for us. I have just finished two NOS parts to suit 125's/175's, and another part that I think will fit much earlier bikes. I am just waiting on the arrival of the 250/400 NOS boot. When I get it done remind me to send you a replacement for the not-so-pretty boot we sent you a few months back. I should have it done by March, all going well.
Thanks again

See what I mean? These guys are just too nice and helpful, so no reason not to roll out the red carpet in a big way. Thanks Rob, I'll take you up on that and donate the slightly homely one I have on to some other less fortunate but deserving soul. [^]
Yes I agree, no reason not to support these guys. I have supported other marques that were getting no help. At least the options are now there so between Doug and Kip, Al B, Ozzie friends, and others the bikes keep going!

Rob, Do you have the curved hi-breather frame piece that goes from the air box to the frame? (part no. 5-69.000) If not and you'd like to reproduce it I'll let you borrow mine. Let me know. Also, how about some of the gray plastic? Magura perch covers that are so hard to find

Adrian,
Welcome to the POG. Very Nice products!
Peter, I do not have the curved hi-breather. I haven't had anyone down here ask for it. If you guys need it I will do it. Thank you for your offer - please send it over. Same with the magura bits. I have been mucking around with pseudo-injection-moulding for the litle "hard bits". That is, I am pushing the compound into the mold under pressure instead of using gravity - what a mess. I probably need to buy a vacuum pump to do it better. Just a bit expensive for me yet - anyone got a spare??:)
Thanks
Rob Wager
(ozktm parts guy)
Rob - I have a working Magura "star" adjuster and a fairly nice set of the rubber covers. If you would like to mold them let me know and I will mail them out.
Chris
Rob,
Do you have the rubber fork wiper with the hole in the back to run the brake cable through and zip tie to the leg on the cerriani (sp?) forks. This would be on my 74 175
Thanks,
Tommy
Wow guys, seems like I just scored a whole bunch of new mates. Are you good for a room when I come visit?
Chris, lets have a go at your Magura "star" adjuster and the set of the rubber covers. Chris and Peter, can you email me privately, maybe with a picture of what your sending, just so I can keep track of who is sending what and so I know where to return it to? I'd hate to screw that up.
Tommy, no I don't have any fork boots yet. My mate down the road has nice 35mm fork boots off an early ossa but they don't have any holes for cables. So maybe not what you want.
Let me know
Thanks guys

Rob,
If you pay the freight, I can 'scare' up a used vacuum pump,
any particular type you are seeking? Quite a few here @ work,
the chemists/physicists I work for use them daily.
Hey to Alan T for me,
-don
re: vacuum pump, Fantastic Don, I have two ideas how to use it: one is to degas the pre-polymer so I can reduce the amount of bubbles in the mix, the other is to use it to draw polymer into molds (like reverse injection).
For degassing I started with a thick wall steel pipe and welded a base to form a steel "bucket". I have welded and machined a ring/lip on to top of to hold a bit of inch thick perspex. It has an o-ring seal. And it has a 1/2 inch outlet near the base. It's volume is about 7 litres (about 1 1/2 gallons I suppose). I need a pump that can give me a reasonable vacuum in that for about 20-30 seconds - so not huge. For reverse-injection I will just t-piece of the suction line from the "bucket" to a hose/tap/nozzle so I can use the same pump for mold filling.
I have thought about using the smog control vacuum pump of say a mazda car, but have been told it won't generate enough vacuum. My urethane supplier mate says buy a proper one. And that is as far as I have got. So Don, I really have no idea about vacuum pumps. Type and size is a mystery to me. If you could ask your co-workers what pump they reckon would do the volume and time I need I would appreciate it. Um, there might be a problem with the electric motor voltage. I'm not even sure if the pumps are stand alone or if they have seperate motors (that I could switch?). Either way think I have a transformer that could drop the voltage to US specs.
And of-course I will pay the freight. Please let me know how you get on. Thank you again and again

Tommy, Speed and Sport has the fork whiper with brake cable guide in stock. Kurt tipped me off to them and its now installed on my bike, fast service, I recommend those guys.
Rob, I will email you later with pictures of what I am sending. If you could repro those Magura parts Id be a happy man.
