Hey Tom,
Thanks for the panel. What do you recommend for painting it white? Do I need to do any prep on it first. Use an undercoat of a different type than the top coat? It has some blackish hue on some of it. Can I just get glossy white paint in a rattle can? How many coats? What type of paint do I use? Remember, you sent me the most beautiful already painted panels last time and you spoiled me!!!!! Now you have to educate me.

Geeze TED, thanks for believing!!!
Here goes, can do the red scotchbright thing to scuff overall...
Plasticoat primer from Pep-Boys...let dry min. 4 days
Wet n dry 400, tack rag!!!
Paint the whole thing Hot Rod white (Plasticoat) 2 days cure time
buy some 3m blue thinline masking roll
mask out for the numberplate, use 1/2 in 3m light tack tape (blue)to continue masking the outside of the thinline
cover off the remaining parts with newspaper or better yet, true masking paper
Paint the yellow with school bus yellow (Plasticoat)
wait at least 2 hrs, carefully pull back the outer portions down to where you have only the thinline tape
find the overlap edge from the initial layout for the yellow
pull the thinline back against itself, this will improve the "cut"
of the tape
wait 1 day
black 3m pin stripe the junction of the white/yellow
Clearcoat with #229 clear
The real secret with spray bomb is that it is formulated to dry very quickly, this becomes problematic when trying to make the first coats too wet. The idea and technique is to make the first coats very light, building a tooth for future layers, I never try to saturate with the first coats of any paint esp spray bomb.. after the first three coats of color or clear 15 min. between cycles, gradually work away from the surface in 1 in increments, this intent is to keep the paint wet, if not, then orange-peel will result. I rec. do not clearcoat for 1 to 2 full days, to let all colors settle...
Man my fingers are pooped, I hope you get the idea.
Tom.....
Tom,
Great post! Could you clarify (when you're fingers recover) the last part about moving away in 1 in. increments and keeping the paint wet to avoid orange peel? Thanks!
Tommy
Thank you Tom. Now I know why you won't paint them for me anymore!!!! I hate painting, I have no patience!!!
