Title: 1251/5A Conversion to 6 speed
Post by: Chakka on February 14, 2005, 09:34:33 PM
I just picked up a 125/5A Motor, Carb and Motoplat this weekend and plan on using it in my next restore. Can anyone tell me how straight forward this conversion is? I searched the group and it seems this can be done. Will I need to locate any special parts for the swap?

Thanks
Chris

A conversion from a 5/A to a 6/A can be done if the 5 A has the upgraded cases, selector and main shaft.  The upgrade started with engine number 6320 501 and up.   If your right side cover is original this will tell you yes or no.  The most positive way is to look at the selector arm if it is solid, no,  If it has the adjusting bolt you can make it a 6 speed.  Six speed parts you will need are: Selector rod, main shaft, all gears spacers, shims, and a 6 speed selector boss.

Thanks Doug, I will take a look tonight. It appears I have the original left side cover with ser. numbers.
