I am in the need for a 72mm piston, part # 54 30 007 400, and air boot, part # 55 06 026 500 and the metal airbox complete if possible for a 78 MC5 250 or the plastic aftermarket box if it is complete.

Rod, I am pretty sure that the stock air box is... plastic. The box on my 76 is metal but the one on my 78 is plastic. The metal ones from the 76 and 77 would not fit the 78 since the frame is a bit different right there. I wish I had one to send your way...
I was looking at my parts book and noticed something I had never seen before, a air box cover for the 78 style air box, have you ever seen one? I suspect that if it came stock it would have been something that owners would have either thrown away or stashed away only to lose. After the mud bath a couple of weeks ago, I am looking to keep the muck out of the engine anyway I can. Maybe I will give it some thought and see if I can not come up something.

Check out ebay. I have seen an airbox for a 78 model and I think there is one on ther right now for a 80/81 model. I will keep an eye out for you.
