Title: Correct Finish for Alloy Rims
Post by: Chakka on January 01, 2006, 02:16:05 PM
I just unlaced 2 pairs of wheels in preperation for a couple restorations. What is the correct finish for Akront and Sun Rims. I have a pair of both. The Akronts I have seen are usually highly polished. The Sun's appear to be brush finished, of maybe that's years of oxidation. Should I bead blast or just buff them on a wheel?

I belive that Sun like DID had a matte finish like Dwight said but that was result of anodizing.  That is an electroplating process for aluminum available in clear and many colors.  Check with your local plater before trying to remove it.  Ted

Thanks guys....eeeeaak Ted, I already bronze wooled a small part of the Ft. Sun rim. I will call a plater and see if they can matt anodize to match the originals.
