Title: Exhaust and Hub Color Question
Post by: Chakka on January 16, 2006, 12:53:34 PM
What was the original color on pipes and hubs. In publications they look to be a semi gloss black. My hubs have faded to a chalky matt black. I read Kip's artical on refinishing but my hubs and backing plates are so chipped and dinged up I plan to refinish them.

Chakka,
I use Duplicolor Low Gloss Black (#DE1634), in the 500 degree engine enamal paint line.  It comes out almost flat in color and holds up pretty well against fuel and oil with some cure time.  It seemed to match the hub color on my 75 Jackpiner very well, at least to my eye.

Stay away from the high heat ceramic line (#DH1602) as it has a decidedly brown cast to it.
