Title: Akront Hi-shoulder front wheel with conical hub
Post by: 454MRW on February 01, 2006, 03:41:15 PM
I just received what was advertised as a 1982 495 front wheel with hub and it has an Akront HI-shoulder 21" wheel with a conical hub. I was under the impression that Akront Hi-shoulder wheels were only used until around 1975, and someone possibly installed it onto a later model conical hub. The only #'s I have found on the rim is ME2490 found on the side. Can anyone decipher the number or shed some light as to the year the rim actually is? I asked the seller to measure the brake drum and was told it was 5 1/2" but it turns out to be 5 1/8" which is the same as the older conical hub brakes. It will work for me regardless, but I am just curious. Thanks, Mike

That has to be a relaced wheel. That vintage KTM would have been equipped with Sun rims. As far as I know, the Akronts were original equipment for the years you stated, 74' &  75'
