Title: Last of the Hare Scramblers
Post by: rob w on March 10, 2006, 12:13:39 AM
I have a late 1975 Hare Scrambler, frame number 54 510xxxxx. It has 225mm Ceriani off-set axle forks, and a custom altered red fiberglass watermelon style gas tank, that has indentations formed into the tank for clearance from the fork tubes when they're turned full-lock. The previous owner swore it's all original, and the finish of the fiberglass work on the tank is done very nicely.

I've never seen another one like this. I think it's one of the last Hare Scrambler's made before the orange '76 Cross Country models took over.

Has anyone else ever seen this set-up before?

What are some of the earliest frame numbers on the orange Cross Country models ? 511....I think ?

Thanks,
Bob

Hey Bob! I think you might have a "special" or owner modded unit. What I call my 1975 250 CC has frame #511-87XXX (note no prefix 54) is probably a 1976. It's got the Sun rims and 200mm straight-legged ribbed Ceriani's, Orange paint and over-the-top black and white strpes on the toaster style 2.9 tank. Long rear brake connector. Motor #5-540XXXX and cyl rev2. The straight-leg forks make it the same as a 75 or even a 74 to make it Vintage legal.
I'll bet they started changing over models right about then and we'll find some oddball units.
I need to stop by soon and check out your new payground! Have fun, Wildman
