The Mint 400 is coming right along, and I have run into a little problem... The Intake Manifold that I have came off a MC5 bike, I think. It is skewed to the right side of the bike. Does the Manifold for the 75 and older bikes come straight out of the barrel? I went to put the air boot on and the carb seems to be off to the right and seems to be too close to the air box. Is there a difference between the two maifolds? Thanks for the help... It is one thing to put together a bike that you have had for a long time, it is another to put together a bike that was never stock and you are trying to do that now....
Oh and by the way is there a difference between the 250 intake manifold and the 400 manifold. or are they the same...
Again thanks

Hi Thom
The earlier one comes straight out. I have a 250 manifold as well. I'll need to compare the two to see if they're the same.

Thom, I was just comparing manifolds the other day. I have a 76 250 mc5 with the Lectron on it. I looked at the 3 manifolds I have on the 3 250 74-75 "bucket bikes" manifolds and they all appear to be scewed off to the right also !!

My early 74 250 HS (311) comes out straight and my 1978 250 MC5 and my 1980 250 MC are both skewed to the right. It seems as though the manifold was changed to accomodate the larger diameter section of the torque pipes used in late 77 and up, as the carbs are very close to those pipes even when moved over by the revised manifold. Thanks for the input, that is what I was thinking... A buddy of mine who just finished his 250 hare scrambler has a straight manifold for a 400 that he said he would give me so I guess that should get me back on track to finishing the bike... hopefully if I can get some time to work on it I can finish the bike in the next month or so... Two trips out of town are going to keep me from finishing it any time sooner.. I can not wait to throw a leg over it...

David, nice to hear from you again... If you get around to comparing the two that would be nice, but don't take them apart on my account.... still it would be nice to figure that out... Come to think of it I think I now have one scewed 250 maninfold and a scewed 400 manifold, I should dig them out and pull some measurements.... I will let you know what I find... I removed the stock manifold off the 250 a couple of years ago when I decided to throw a mikuni carb on it... I did not want to harm the stock one because I figured that at some point I would put it back to stock.... I had the bike with me when we were at the ISDT RR a year and a half ago..
Bye the way... it has not seen much ride time this last year or so but I am planning on riding it here in a couple of weeks. We have a local summer series that will include a cross country event... The plan is to ride the 250 for that... It will be a 1 hour event and I know I can go the whole race on a single tank.... It should be alot of fun... I had thought of riding the 400 but I do not think it will be finished in time for the next race...
