I am cleaning a drive unit in preperation to putting it on my Jackpiner. Is there a way to remove the worm drive gear that the speedo cable plugs into? It slides about a 1/16" and then stops. If I could remove this it would be much easier to clean out the 30+ years of goo that have bound it up.
Thanks
Chris
Chris, I tried to take my JP's apart before to no avail :( I don't remember the specifics, but it seems to me that it was assembled with a special tool, almost like an inverted flaring tool of sorts ??

Raymond,
I suspected that! I was looking in there for an internal snap ring but didn't see one. The brass tube that goes thru the center of the worm gear looked peened over to me. Oh well, its kerosene and a toothbrush i guess. Thanks
BTW, your in Maine right? Did you run the vintage endure that was in CT last fall? I have a team assembled next time they run it.
Chris
Thats what I did too Chris, cleaned it up with any and all practical chemical solutions. [:0]
I brought the wrecking crew down to Soemers,Conn. Hare scramble.
ya we got smoked by those Conneticut riders.. hard. The bikes ran great and it was a lot of fun anyway. I think its gonna happen sometime in July this year along with a NETRA Hare Scramble.
Theres info on the NETRA web site and also under the Vintage heading on the NEW ENGLAND DIRT BIKES website.
Always cool getting a bunch of old dirt bikes together [8D]

Theres a Vintage friendly hare Scramble @ the Conneticut state hare Scrambles on July 16th that I know of (NETRA). And also rumors that the Central Cycle Club in Plainsfield Conn. has an Vintage Enduro type of event (?) tentatively set in June. Junes real soon too !!
