Title: ISDT Reunion Ride
Post by: Jeff D on June 16, 2006, 06:31:27 AM
Entry form for the 10th Leroy Winters Memorial ISDT Reunion Ride is now available on the Missouri Mudders website, //www.momudders.com.  The ISDTRR is Oct 27-29 in Park Hills, MO, about an hour south of St. Louis.  You won't find more of your off-road heroes in one place at the same time anywhere else during the year...plus the riding's great, too!  Like they used to say on Hawaii Five-O...Be there, aloha!

I'm hoping to stop by the reunion ride on my way home from visiting my mother in Georgia. This will be very exciting for me not only to take in the event including meeting all of you that attend, but since I grew up in Farmington which is about 5 miles from the park. I rode my first six day in that area 35+ years ago, long before it was a recreation area.  The only thing better would be to ride, but to get my bike from California and back with my schedule etc. appears not to be in the cards  this year. Hope to see you all.

Just spoke with Ron Ribolzi and he says entries are low at the moment. I feel everyone is dragging their feet on sending them in.  This is a MUST DO event.  You will not want to miss another if you attend.  The Thursday afternoon / night Open House at Dave Munganast's Museum will be a moving Tribute to Dave and his memory.  Please attend if possible.
Please send in your entries and get your friends to do so also.  The club needs to plan the Banquet and put the entries in order for numbering.  Can't wait to see everyone there.

GREAT !
This event is so much fun.  I believe we have 4 riders or so coming from Canada,  1 from South Afrika, and 1 from Germany for sure.
Many former ISDT and ISDE riders.
A great opportunity to ride your vintage Penton Enduro bike without destroying it.
FUN FUN FUN,

Entry form is printed, will be sent in the next day or two.

Berkie is mostly ready, just need to shake her down a bit and check all the nuts and bolts and the float setting.  There will not be a repeat of last year's Friday festivities.....

I know of at least two other area guys who are about as advanced in planning an prep as I am who will be there.  So chalk up three more from N. Texas.

How many POG members are going WITH their Penton motorcycles ?  I know of several of us that will be riding OTHER brands this year.  I plan on putting together a PENTON Trophy Team next year.  I have been riding my Hodaka Combat Wombat the past couple years.  It has been great fun. The Hodaka's are so neat.  BUT, I feel the need to ride my Penton Jackpiner next year.  I haven't ridden a Jackpiner since Fall of 1974. I got a Penton SIX DAY 125 just in time for the Gobbler Getter National of 1974.
One year I would like to put together a STEEL TANKER Team for the ISDTR, that would Honor not only John Penton & Tom Penton but Our brethren missing in action, LeRoy Winters and Dave Munganast.

Dwight,

I really like your idea of a Steel Tanker team.  I am taking delivery of a disasembled project bike next week and that may be a great use of that machine.

I talked to Jack today and he will be attending along with JP. Chad and I are planning on riding and maybe Brett will be with us.

I asked Hodaka Paul to equip those Hodies with horns so that we will hear you guys coming up on us, at my age I hate surprises:)

I hope to see and meet all of you guys at this great event.

Hi all,
I like the idea of a Steeltanker team also. My brother Bob and I rode ours Steeltankers together at Zink in 2004 and it was a blast !! The highlight of our weekend was pulling into the the first checkpoint on Sunday and there stands John Penton. We promptly rode over there and got him to sign our tanks. Man was that cool !! I planned to retire the bike after the 2004 RR but had to ride it again at the 2005 RR in New Blaine because my primary bike had an ignition failure just after I pulled away from the starting line. Was having a great ride on the Steeltanker again last year until the back sprocket hub bearings went south causing it to throw the chain and damage the rear wheel. That ended my weekend a bit early but still had a great time anyway. I might be persuaded to take my bike out of retirement if needed. I'd try my best to keep up with you fast guys so let me know. See you in a few weeks in Park Hills !!

I don't understand why everyone doesn't do what I do??  Each year I plan my vacation time which always includes days off for the ISDT Reunion Ride.  When the host club sends out the entry forms I bet my entry is one of the first ten they receive.  Yes, the event is THAT good.  Seeing all your friends and riding with your heros plus seeing all the exquisite vintage machinery is too good to procrastinate.

Sounds like a great event. Does you're bike need to be street legal or have any off road stickers?

Thanks,

Title: ISDT Reunion Ride
Post by: pketchum on October 05, 2006, 10:23:27 PM
Chuck,

It really depends upon the club that is hosting the event but generally speaking, NO!  It merely needs to look legal and of course be a vintage bike (unless you're a ISDT/E veteran).  Sometimes connector roads are used to connect the trail segments together so to be *legal* in the eyes of the law you should have insurance, registration, headlight/taillight, horn, license plate, as well as your drivers license on your person.  Stating this in the requirements apparently keeps the sponsoring club out of legal hot water I think.  But the reality is that registration is NOT checked, nor are there checks of working lights/horn or drivers license. You simply make your motorcycle appear to be street legal in the eyes of the law during the event (I've never seen a LEO while at any of the four ISDTRR's I've ridden in).  I've seen people scan a headlight lens, then laminate it and tape it inside their headlight mask.  I've seen several laminated license plates that are affixed to their rear fender which is what I will do this year also.

The spirit of the event is to honor those who have participated for the glory of the USA in ISDT/E events as they are indeed Olympic-caliber athletes who ride on two-wheels, and also to ride vintage enduro machines, many of which are really well-prepared/clean examples of their marque.  It is truly the best event of the year in my opinion, with Mid-Ohio's Vintage Motorcycle Days coming in a rather distant second (and I LOVE VMD too).

I live 115 miles Northwest of Newburgh, which would be backtracking, but could pick the bike up for you a day or two before leaving for the RR if no one is actually going past there. I will have plenty of room for it and even a couple more if there is any more needing transportation. I plan on going early on Thursday morning to do some trail riding with Phast Phil before heading back to the museum Thursday evening. Call or email me with the address if you need any help.

Ron,
Thanks for your great effort! I unfortuantely will be working out of town Monday and possibly not returning until Tuesday night, so I am right now painting my 74 1/2 175 engine that is fresh from Gary's shop to install it in the 125 chassis after I made sure the 125 exhaust pipe and engine would fit in the chassis for my backup bike. The 125 engine can be installed after the RR. I don't want to press my luck, especially if the gaskets take longer than anticipated to make. Mike
