I am working to complete a 1978 400 mc5 and was told the stock pipe needs to be replaced for best overall performance. Any comments and or location to obtain a better performer. Thanks Brad.

I don't know if he has a 78 400 pipe designed yet, but you might try Kevin at Circle F Exhaust in Houston. I took 3 bikes down around the first of May for him to work on building 77 GS6, 78 MC5, and early 80 MC 250 Penton/KTM pipes. His number is 713-467-1488. Mike

Im not so sure about that.  The 78 snake pipe was unchanged for 79 also. I believe they work quite well in taking the midrange hit out of the 400 without any power loss. The bike feels slower than the 77 but is not in a drag race, just less pipier.

I agree with mike, my 78 400 had plenty of power, and after riding a 78 Maico 400 it was my conclusion that the KTM in overall power output was faster at the ended of a straight away by several lengths.
