Last Sunday I made personal history by riding the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan (CCC)Color Tour event held in Rose City, Michigan. For several years I have been thinking about doing a trail tour with this fine club. The last time I attended a CCC event was October 1977 when I rode their annual fall color tour on my 1972 Six Day Penton.
As you can see by the picture, this time I rode a newer Penton (2001 EXC 200) that I purchased from Doug Wilford a few years ago. I haven't been out riding in Northern Michigan in close to 30 years. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I was on the trail. All this week I keep thinking about how I can get out in the woods again! :D If you've been thinking about getting out on your bike, don't wait as long as I did! And who knows, maybe at next year's color tour, I'll ride the old Six Day.

If I'd known you were there, I would have said HI! It was a good ride, about par for CCC trail tours. We had about 465 riders sign up for Saturday, a real good turnout. I was riding my 1990 suzi rmx. I felt a little lonely on my yellow bike in that sea of orange;) BTW, this was the 38th Color tour, did you get the patch? If you had gone to the previous trail tour, it was the Vintage Ride and I displayed my 75 Penton 250 HS. Didn't win a prize this year, top winner was a 50 yr old Matchless by the original owner ( influenced by Worlds Fastest Indian nostalgia, IMHO.)
That was the last trail tour of the season, but try to plan on the Rites of Spring next year, TBA early next year. Last year at Atlanta, MI. A real nice trail and the town really liked the business brought in and opened up the local fairgrounds for camping and starting point. Also the Phil Bean Memorial ride at Wolverine is one of the best of the whole season ( free pig roast, lots of prizes, local Lumberjack festival and this year Chuck Sun handed out the prizes!)
I've been doing the Trail Tours for at least 20+ years and it's my favorite kind of riding, lots of miles, self-paced and low pressure and luck of the draw prize winning. Glad you had a good time, Wildman

Wildman,
Sorry I missed you. Maybe we could pair up next year. I also noticed how much orange was out there. It kinda surprised me. I've been told by a number of people that I need to change the stock Bridgestones to Michelin S-12 on the front and M-12 on the rear. I started the run off with 14 psi (1 bar) in each tire as per the owners manual. I noticed immediately the front end was skiddish in deep sand so I stopped and let some air out on two different occasions before the bike starting feeling better. Do you know what the preferred tire setup is for these conditions? In the good old days I always ran Metzler's on my Six Day bike and never had a problem.
No, I didn't get the patch. My eyes were on the $20.00 sweatshirts so I got one of those. [8D]
I have ran Bridgestone M39F- M40R for years, ($108 delivered to door) for years but now discontinued. I put Dunlop D752s on my Penton Harescramble for racing here in Michigan, they're ok but seem to wear quicker. Lots of people like the S-12s here, I think the knobs look a little skimpy. I run 10psi about everywhere except where it's really rocky ( with HD tubes). I usually ask someone at my local bike shop for a recommendation, they see the new stuff a lot more than I do. Wildman
