I remember Frank Stacy had a factory ride with Sachs, but it fell apart. Did Sachs ever sell any bikes in the USA 125,250,400? Any pictures, where they any good?thanks
Yes, No, and yes.:D Actually a beautiful 250 in pics in an old VMX issue and info. Believe it is owned by a POG member that could shed some light here.

No Sachs bikes in the US after 1970 DKW in place of Sachs early years. 1975 Hercules was sold in the US - No more DKW Frank on a 250 Hercules maybe, (memory fade)
Havve Fun!
Doug,
There were some Blue 250 Sachs bikes at National MX races in I think 1976 or 1977. I am fairly sure Frank rode one at least once. I was also thinking that Gary Roach's Dad has one and it was the one in VMX. I have wacked my head too many times[B)] and do have some memory troubles from back then because of my short coma in late 75[xx(] but I think these things are right.
On a side note I have a friend that just bought one of these Sachs 250s from Europe and has brought it here. He posted about it here looking for some parts help awhile back.

jon, I have a 1969 Sachs 125 cross country with a 5a motor in it. Not a moto crosser. It was possibly brought over from Canada, seeings I bought it sorta close to our border. The gas tank was toast and now it has a Deek tank on it. Other than that its box stock, except for the the DW tuned motor :)

I have a picture of Frank Stacy on a Sachs 250mx in 1977 Trans AMA race I believe. It has a after-market aluminum swing-arm, weird gas tank. Just wonder if there's a few around, would be a great bike to restore.
I think a few blue 250 Sachs did come down through Canada. I remember in 1977 a local Michigan rider taught MX schools at Red Bud and had one. Beautiful looking bike with lay down shocks.
The blue 1978 Sach's Willie Bauer Replica is the bike I think you are talking about. Helmut Clasen has GS'd his bike which began life as 5 speed mx, very light, very powerful. He added a rear frame loop, lights, beefed up the swingarm, changed it to 7 speed, spark arrestor I think, much more of his six day tricks.
I have one, mine was GS'd a bit back in the day by a rider from Alberta and ridden in Hare Scrambles. Not as much as Helmuts but mines has lights, spark arrestor and came over as a 6 speed where almost all were 5 speed. His says 5a on the plate and mine says 6a, it's not a converted 5 speed. These were efforts to have a very very light enduro that would fly.
If I can answer any questions let me know but Helmut is the authority on these bikes.

Yes I believe Frank Stacy's was a 7 speed,I would love to see pictures. So it seems none where sold in the USA in 1977 then To bad I would have liked to restore one, I'll try too find a 250 Harley mxer or may be a 1977 Montesa. Thanks
Franks bike was a Sachs GP250 5 speed. It was brought in by Hercules which is owned by Sachs. There were less than 500 of these made world wide. The same engine cases were used in the 7 speeders. There were no Sachs 7 speed 400cc bikes. Only a so called "350" sold under the Hercules name which was actually a 255cc bike. The 250 was a 245cc. I have a factory MC125RV engine which I need to find a rolling chassis for.

I am looking for a complete GS125/7a 1976-78. I don't care if the engine is a total waste , locked up etc. The MC125RV is a factory only REED VALVE model. My friend , Leo Keller in Germany gave it to me as he had no plans to use it.
I am hoping it has more low end than the standard GS125/7a being that it has a reed valve but Leo says it is like a road race motor. Sounds familiar, eh ?
