The POG with have two very special guest speakers at its 6th. Annual Penton Day At The AMA meeting on Feb. 3, 2007.
Carl Cranke, noted Penton racer, tuner and engine builder will be joining us for the day. Carl's vast knowledge of how to make those Sachs and KTM engines do what you want them to do, plus his years of racing experience makes Carl a virtual treasure chest of knowledge about our favorite brand of machine. Carl's tuning techniques are legendary as are his racing stories; join with us as Carl shares of his knowledge of how to make a Penton fly and of flying them.
Dave Duarte, who served as Vice President and General Manager of Penton Imports, will also be joining us for the day. Dave's many years of racing on the west coast, coupled with his experience of running the west coast operation of Penton Imports, gives Dave a lot of experience to draw upon in providing us with some insight as to how the west coast operation of Penton Imports operated.
Carl and Dave are both traveling from the west coast to join us for the day and we sure do appreciate their efforts. Mark your calendars now and plan on joining us for what should be both an informative and fun Penton Day at the AMA.
Paul
Paul,
I'll be there. Sounds like this years meeting will be a great one. I'm really looking forward to it. Sure hope some of the out-of-staters can make it. Nice to see some familiar faces more than once a year. Anyone else planning the trip??
Randy
Turn the heat on in the Penton garage, I'm planning on coming.
Rod
Rocket,
Your room (1A) is ready. Lew & Glenn (2A) ??
I hope but we'll watch the weather to know for sure.
We won't be late for dinner this time.
Lew Mayer
Hey Paul,
Stuff the Reunion Ride bug in Dave's ear when you see him. I've been after him for a couple of years. Maybe he and Carl can make the trip together with Fred Cameron this fall!
Jeff DeBell
Jeff,
Will do, I am sure that he would enjoy it. If any of you guys have the Bad Rock ISDT Qualifier movie, Dave Duarte is the guy rubbing his hands together trying to warm up at the first check, while enjoying a smoke.
Paul
I'll do my best to get there, any favorites for lodging??
Dan,
This is the link to the Museum's website, they have a list of places to stay and they have a deal with the two on the top right for a Museum visitors discount. These places are only about a mile from the Museum.

I will not be able to attend, but I need to move two bikes closer to Texas....if anyone is going from Texas, Oklahoma or Louisiana that don't mind hauling bikes back I will be happy to pay gas or $$$. Just let me know. Thanks.
Ron Carbaugh
I hope to bring my JP to my first Penton Day at the AMA. Are there any arrangements that need to be made (pre registration, etc.), or do you just show up and unload? Thanks for any information.

Paul,
These gentlement being with us is very exciting for me as I have only recently gotten interested in Pentons.
I will be there and am looking forward to learning from these experts.
Ozzie
Nelson,
Nothing to worry about ahead of time, just show up and enjoy the day. Thanks for bringing your Piner along, if the weather is decent we will do a lineup of the bikes just outside the museum in the curved brick driveway. If the weather is nasty we will set up in the semi enclosed garage area.
Ozzie,
From the emails and calls that I have been getting, plus the activity on this messageboard, I would say that a lot of folks are excited about this meeting. You have picked a good one to attend, the Musuem meeting is always interesting, we even had a wedding at one a couple of years ago
Just in case any of you are not aware of how lunch works at this meeting, Alan Buehner from Buehner Supply has pizza and soft drinks delivered for all of us, we usually enjoy an interesting video as we eat in the Museum lunchroom.
Dinner after the meeting is also an interesting time, Tommy Garrett who used to live in Amherst and worked for Penton Imports, now lives only a couple of miles from the Museum. Tommy and his wife have once again invited everyone from the meeting to their home for dinner. I just talked to Tommy earlier tonight and they are excited to see everyone again. Dinner at Tommy's is always a great time and we sure do appreciate their hospitality.
Paul
PS Mike, bring that Herc along if you wish, there is plenty of room.
It looks like this might be my first POG meeting (and when I will actually fill out the form and become a member). What time does the meeting itself actually start? I also intend to spend some time in the Museum itself - any suggestions on how much time to allow for that?
I look forward to meeting everyone! I certainly have found this website a wealth of information!

Penton Newbie - thanks to Young Ted!
Good question, when does the meeting start?? How long should it last?? Will there be time before or after for a little "bench racing"?
The Museum opens at 9 with the meeting starting at 10. We will have several seminars during the course of the day with time in between for lunch, which is delivered to the museum, a tour of the Pentons brought for display and an afternoon break. We usually finish up between 4- 4:30.
I recommend getting to the Museum as early as possible as the day goes fast and there is lots to see and do. Last year we held our meeting and seminars right in amoungst the museum display as we have out grown the meeting room and we will most likely be doing that again this year. For a taste of what to expect check out the pictures in the photo gallery from last years meeting.
We have an awesome place to meet, some very interesting guests along with the usual cast of charactors, all we need to make the day perfect is you.
Hope to see you there.
Paul
Doug - In getting lined up for Feb. 3rd, is there a sub, sub, sub, paragraph that mentions if a Michigander comes to the Buckeye State to sign up, he will be considered a foreign member?
Young Ted
Ted,
But you have a Texas Visa...that covers all. Doug has one.[8D]
Ron Carbaugh
I am sorry, but I will have to miss my 1st Penton meeting next month. I scheduled myself to attend as my sister-in-law lives about 1/2 mile from the museum and it would give my wife the opportunity to get together with family.
I was advised (by my wife) that I had made other plans a few months ago for the same date. The Baltimore County Trail Riders Association (BCTRA), 39 years old and counting, has its annual banquet on the same day. I have only missed one banquet in my 34 years of membership, so the banquet takes priority.
I will be attending the York Swap Meet on Sunday. Maybe I will see some of you there.
I will have to try to make the next one at the museum. Enjoy and have fun.
Tony Friedel
Ted...so I need my passport and Visa then huh?[:p]

Penton Newbie - thanks to Young Ted!
I bet if I bring a cylinder or two, some porting tools and alot of money...
The motel listed below is the one that most of the guys seem to like staying at. It is about a mile from the museum and there is a Cracker Barrel near by for those who don't like the motels breakfast. Be sure to mention that you are a museum visitor to get the better rate.
Don't forget, everyone is invited to Tommy Garretts for dinner after the meeting. Tommy lives only a couple of miles from the museum, dinner at Tommys is always a great time.
Richard Sanders is flying up from Texas, Speedy usually comes down from Canada and Dave and Carl are from the west coast, we will have quite a large area covered.
We went to the museum last week to finalize some details, no matter how many times we see the Motocross America display it is still awesome. Next year at this time it will be gone, besure to take some time to enjoy it. The museum has the Dave Mungenast book in good supply as well as the Motocross America exhibit book, great time to get your copy and support the museum.

poggers, I was wondering if anyone knows where is a close mall and a Hooter's? We also are staying at the Country Inn Suites Columbus East and are arriving early afternoon Fri. dndracing
Randy may know, he's not too far from there.
Lew Mayer
242,
Eastland Mall is south of I-70 at the Hamilton Road exit in Columbus, just a few miles from the Pickerington exit, where the AMA is located. I know there is a Hooters in Columbus but I'm not sure where.
242, We have a room at the same place as you and Gary. Maybe we can get together for dinner. My cell is 573-275-7210

Great news, Young Ted has emailed to say that he and Connie will be at the museum Sat. morning. Ted said he is ready to keep his reputation as a troublemaker intack, I am sure than Connie will be her sweet usual self :)
I just picked the handouts up at the printers and they did a very nice job. They include a number of pictures from days gone by and the riders pictured will pretty much be on hand. Hopefully they will make for a nice keepsake for all those attending.
