Post by: Dwight Rudder on January 03, 2007, 12:02:04 PM
GOOD NEWS !
Due the popularity of restoration for many of the old vintage M/X bikes in the USA, Parts Unlimited and Metzeler have brought the extremely popular Metzeler "UNI-CROSS" back the USA. 2- sizes are currently available . See your Parts Unlimited Dealer !

0312-0098    90/90-21 front

Dwight

I talked to Metzeler at the Dealer Expo in "06" and tried to convince them to repop the old tires only with American Indexing VS Metric.  They wanted me to order 3,000 each of the old sizes to get the job started, I could personally do 500 ea (needless to say, I would be divorced).  I wanted the tires for two purposes, riders and restorations, with the metric indication you have mentioned, at least we will have the riders!  I then wrote a letter to Metzeler indicating the huge interest in the vintage market and challenged them to do some research but received no response.  Metzeler and Trelleborg are both missing a great opportunity in selling these old repops (American not Metric).  I think Metzeler lost out on the offroad market and seem to have started focus on the road market.  Retro anything is big business, especially if it is done correctly!  Maybe the Japanese  will pick up on this and start making OEM tires for the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Group;)
