I need an original rear frame loop for a steeltanker. The frame I have that I want to restore has a homemade loop. Any help would be appreciated. I will be happy buy a frame to just to get the loop, but I don't want to destroy a nice frame. Thanks.
Ron Carbaugh
Ron why don't you get a piece of correct tubing and have your local hydraulic hose people bend it up for you? Weld 4 tabs and your done. Surely in your garage you have a good one you can copy.
Ted,
Because I want it original. It already has a copy welded to it.
Dony Smith,
Thanks for the frame parts.
Ron Carbaugh
Ron: Was just a suggestion. FYI: If man made it then man can copy it without even you telling the difference. Problem is too many people think a copy just has to work not look identical. Ted

The man knows what he wants, and it's his bike, let him do it his way.
I am not trying to be mean but will clarify why I said what I said. First, not all people know that most hydraulic hose retailers usually can bend steel tubing. I am lucky as I know someone with a computerized tubing bender that can handle anything up to 4" in diameter. The information was put out to inform. Second, I am a FIRM believer not to cut up any frames. Frames, once cut up for parts are a lost Penton forever. This is a shame to due in my opinion when a part can be reproduced exactly. Ron I know you want it your way but I hope you see where I am coming from. I have never seen a frame that wasn't salvageble if enough work was done. Sure it's easier to toss it but I just disagree to use 2 to make 1. I know that you will not change your mind but maybe someone else will read this and think twice before destroyinmg another future Penton.
You both make valid points, parting one out lessens the quanity of the salvagable ones, but if your taking original parts to make one 100%, then there should be a little leaway. I suppose it comes down to: he got the parts from Donny Smith, what was the condition of the unit the parts came off of?? Was it nonsalvagable? had the frame allready been cut? inquiring minds would like to know.[ if you don't mind us asking?] thx
Ted,
Obviously from your view, from the mountain top, you are always right. Now let me tell you why I ask for the frame part, besides just wanting it. I once bought a swing on ebay and I could see the frame was nice. I ask to buy the frame. No answer. When I got the swingarm it had been torched of the frame. Someone else had bought the front end ( a Friend )and he told me the steering head had been torched off too just for the frontend. Next story is at a lot of salvage yards in the South, if inspected by the state, must produce titles or cut the steering heads off right then. So all in all Ted I am not on the prowl to destroy frames.
So why don't you let me judge as to the frames that are worth saving since I have probably saved more Pentons from the salvage yard and/or found homes for Pentons than most people will ever see today. And Ted I said most people so please don't get on a tear and read me the riot act about proving me wrong.
Dan,
I do mind you asking because this isn't a court of of who did what and was it OK. If you go back and read most of you comments you remind me of TV reporters after hearing a speech. They start off say "well let me tell you what the President said". I can read and I know a little bit about Pentons, restoring them and making them start up and go. So here is number 2 for you. First you started it with Larry Perkins over the ebay items and now every post made here seems to have you have to make a comment. If you want me to stop helping people on this site and only post things I have for sale just say it. Now go back and look at some of your last 25 responses on this thead if you want to see my point.
Ron Carbaugh
Ron: Sorry you seem to be taking my comments so personally. Your responses seem to be getting more mean spirited, while I have merely stated my opinions. Don't know why your being that way, but again I just put out my opinion in the hope others try and repair wherever possible. Ted
Ron, I just went back and read over the thread about the E bay stuff. There are both pro's and con's mentioned in it. Some people like it and some don't. I posted the 250 in Tx., the guy who bought it thanked me because he didn't see it on E bay. There are other pro answers there also.
If you're peeved at me about Larry, that's fine, but Larry made his own choice.
And if you don't want me on this site, by all means tell me. This site was put up so we can all help each other. I haven't been on here very long and you've voiced before that there were alot of people here before me and alot of people here know more than me. That's fine, but I also come here to learn, I read every post, put up by anyone. I ask questions, I try to give advice to those I think I can help, if I can't help I don't answer. Some times I try to steer them to someone,[like you] who can answer their question more professionally. It's not your message board, or Larry's ,or Ted's, or Tom's: It's our board, proud Penton Owners. If I'm wrong to want to help, then I'm wrong.
Do I want Larry to come back, you bet, I think he's a good guy. He tells it like it is, nothing wrong with that. And if you read that thread, I did step up and defend him. I like Larry and hope he comes back around.
I would like to think I don't have any enemies on this site, but I may be wrong. Dan "thrownchain"

"It's not your message board, or Larry's ,or Ted's, or Tom's".
I find this disturbing.
I have never felt, under any assumption, that any member of the POG, is under the assumption that "we" are the "Masters" of the POG Forum!
I, like you, hold very close regards to the pride in owning a Penton.
But please, do not characterise me in a different way.
Respectfully
Tom Brosius
Ron,
Will try to ship your frame to you on Monday!!

Donny,
Just when you have time and I am sending money via PayPal. Thanks again Donny.
To echo My Good Friend Tom Brosius post...
""It's not your message board, or Larry's ,or Ted's, or Tom's".
I find this disturbing.

I am not the coordinator and I do not have any part of the POG website management or any control on what posts are left on here or removed as some have been done. With that said I now have the frame loop I wanted when all this started and for that I have Donny Smith to thank. Also I would like to thank the several other Penton Owner's Group members that emailed me off site offered to help. This is the Best Group. In response to the use of the term "Masters of the POG Forum" I will cease to offer tech help on this board at this time and as I stated earlier just use the site as a shameless method to buy and sale items.

Ron....I can't speak for anyone but my self, but I need you Brother. I need your wealth of knowledge, your caring and your total honesty. We (POG) have lost Larry P. (I hope only temporary) and we can't afford to lose you too...

I for one will miss you Uncle Ron. I will still call you for help. Your nephew Gary
OK.....I'm REAL NEW HERE...should probably stay out of it...but never can.
WHAT THE HECK.
I've been lurking in the back groud for almost a year now....finally join up to get help with the 4 pentons I've accumilated...and now...Larry...who I've personally met...and he's a great guy and a ton of help. Ron who I've read post and I have developed the opinion is very knowledgable on the subject, are leaving. Just me being selfish I guess, but the heck with those who don't agree with you...stay for us newbies that need and appreciate the help.
All us motorcycle people have issues, come on....you must to throw a leg over one in the first place.
Who cares if we play nice, thick skin, deep breath, it's about the bikes!

or is there such a thing?
Please, Say it ain't so! This is truly a sad sad day for the Penton Owners Group of Vintage Motorcycle enthusiasts. If it weren't for people like Larry and Ron, who give their honest opinion, even in the face of disagreement and turmoil, and assistance to those of us who need direction and a helping hand, where would we be? Ron, I know there are a lot people that benefit from your expertise and will miss out if you and Larry don't step in and straighten out some of our misconceptions with facts and personal experience. I for one come to this message board to learn what I don't know and share the things that I have learned with others, and I sincerely hope that you and Larry with reconsider. Your comments will both be terribly missed, if you choose not to participate. Mike

MAN, WHAT IS GOING ON? In a period of 2 weeks the flame wars have caused 2 long term individuals to elect to no longer participate on the POG site and share their wealth of information, guidance, aide and assistance.
I want to believe that no one was intentionally trying to drive either Larry or Ron off the site, but through some comments that were misunderstood and/or stated in such a way that they became personal, caused these reactions. Maybe everyone should read what they write to insure that it correctly means what you intended before hitting the send button.
I enjoy all of the information presented here, even if it may be redundant and/or identifying where bikes and parts are for sale.
If an individual wants original parts to complete a restoration, that is his business and not ours to question, especially when most everyone on the site knows of his expertise and attention to detail. Also, if someone wants to complain about what is being done, he has that right, in my opinion. It is still the USA. We also have the right to take that individual to task, request a better understanding, or offer a solution to the problem.
Lets stop the flame wars and get on to enjoying the restoration, riding, parts search, technical help and friendship that have made this board what it is, a place to discover PENTONS.
Larry and Ron, both of you have come to a decision based on your own opinions and I fully support you on that position, but I would personally appreciate it if you would reconsider and return to the POG site and continue to offer your counsel and incite on Penton's.
If, I in any way have upset anyone with my comments, you have my personal apology.
Tony
I agree with Vintagechadwick. I am new to the site, and although I have owned a Penton for 34 years, all I do is just soak up the info you guys give. I rarely ever post because I don't really have anything that would be of much help to you experienced guys. To not have Larry and Ron on this site will really hurt those that need all the help and advice they can get. I hope they both will reconsider. I have not ever met either one of them, but I value them and our internet relationship!
Jim
Ron,
I reject the notion of you not giving tech advice on POG. If I need help from my big brother and post as much on POG, I'm gonna by-Gum get your help ;) I'm younger than you, I'm bigger than you, and I've been to your house so I know where you live and where the advantageous lines of fire should be :D

Ron and Larry: I don't know you guys, except for the forums, but I can tell you from prsonal experience that the opinions and words of others can only bother you if you let them.
I am a high school teacher who has coached one sport or another for over 20 years. All together I have over 40 seasons of high school level experiences that have always left at least one athlete or family unhappy. I used to say in my pre-season softball parent meetings: "Right now I have 30 happy families because everyone is on the team. When I annoounce the varsity team I will have 15 happy families. When I announce the first starting line up I will have 9 happy families. Finally, when the most valuable player is announced I will have one happy family".
I guess the moral of this story is to live your life righteously and be true to yourself. I also still coach because I love the sports and I love working with kids. Keep the faith, guys, I know you are good people. I look forward to meeting you guys somewhere in the future because I know you love this sport and love these bikes (and people) too much to disappear.

Mick,
I coached my daughter's softball team for 10 years. Best thing I ever did. My office is about a mile from University of Tulsa, and every Spring I stop by and watch most of their softball games. What a great sport - so much action and enthusiasm and hustle. The boys could take some lessons from these girls.
