Title: Gas Tank Replacement
Post by: chuck on March 06, 2007, 10:46:43 AM
I have had two stock gas tanks split at the seams on my 125 six day. Had one reapired and happened again. What is a good replacement tank? I believe I once saw a berkshire gas tank on a six day. Does that souund right? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chuck

Chuck,
The Six Day Tank and the Berkshire Tank are the same, except for color.

Donny,

What am I thinking of? I have seen what appears to be a smaller metal tank. Definitely, not a steel tanker or a Hi point tank.

There were the smaller fiberglass MX tanks.

Chuck,Are you using the horsehair padding pieces front and rear, along with the front rubber gromets?I have a Mettco tank that is pop riveted all the way around the seams-just an idea.

Chuck, you don't mention if it's a metal or "glass" tank, but proper mounting may be your problem. There are "pads" that have to be installed or undo pressure will be put in the wrong areas.

Didn't someone in the aftermarket have an aluminum tank as a replacement??

I think you're right Dwight. I'm thinking of the smaller fiberglass tanks. What did those originally come on?

My tank is fiberglass. I am using padding and the front rubber mounts. I must not have the padding in the correct places.

thanks,

Hi Point sold an English made aluminum tank to replace the stock fiberglass tank. I purchased mine at a swap meet about 10 years ago for $40 but now they go for around $300 on Ebay! I ran this tank on my 72 Six Day when I raced Mid-Ohio last summer. Go to the photo gallery and scroll thru and there are a couple of starting line photos that show the tank clearly.

Slightly off topic-I bought what looks like a Hi Point tank off of the evil bay thinking it would fit one of my Pentons but the tunnel is too narrow.I suspect it may be a Husky tank,If anyone needs one-it's not the real skinny one ,i'd say about WR size.Has a couple small dents that could be pulled out pretty easy i think. Will trade it for parts or cash,if someone needs it....Thanks,Ric

The new VMX has an ad for a guy here in the US that claimes he will make any alum tank for any bike.  Maybe we should send him a small HI Point tank to make some copies??
