Good point Rainman! Money is not real. Money is exactly what you and another party agree it is.
That frame did sell with two people bidding it up to $1025.

well Dennis, it seems that sale blew a big ole hole in my comment.[B)] So lets go back to the original question... Whats so special about a steel tanker frame that its worth a grand ??
37 years old ? Their not making anymore ? You cant find a steel tanker for sale ?
I guess maybe a grand don't buy that much anymore, especially if your buying antique bike parts :(
Limington Me. trail report: 12" of slushy snow stuff with 2 ft deep mudholes.

Hey RainMan. I have been checking in here from time to time, but mostly lurking. I thought that the answer was going to be some bit of history that I was unaware of. To see a frame go for that much is a shock. I realize how nice it would be to have a complete steel tanker but just like buying a new bike one part at a time is gonna kill you, I wonder what a restored steel tank will cost that way. Thanks to those who took the time to answer my question, I just thought the answer would be more of a story.

I'm not a steeltank expert but I didn't see a story there. It seems someone with deep pockets wanted a frame really bad.
I did buy the rear fender from the same seller and though it needs some TLC it fit nice and the bolt holes lined right up. This almost finishes mine :D
