Rob, didn't one of our own win this scramble last year ??  Seems to me I was marveling at how much mud one can get on himself and his bike :D

I went to the John Penton GNCC this weekend. The weather was nice, but we haven't had any rain here in the last week, so the open areas of the track were really dusty.

The event t-shirts were really cool. They had a picture of local Ohio KTM rider Robbie Jenks on it, and it also had a modified version of the '74 Penton tank decals. Instead of just the name "PENTON", it said "THE JOHN PENTON". That same graphic was also used on all of the trophys and plaques. I don't know if they sold all of the event shirts or not, but if your interested in purchasing one, you might try contacting Moto Tees at:

http://www.mototees.com/GNCC_MX_shirts.html

Unfortunately there were no Pentons on display, but The Powersports Grafx/KTM satellite team made up Penton decals for their KTMs that were really nice. They were dark green, and also featured a modified version of the the '74 Penton tank decals. Powersport Grafx is going to auction off a set of the graphics on ebay, and all of the proceeds are going to the Daytona 200 Memorial Monument in Daytona Beach. Powersports Grafx website is: http://www.ridepg.com
Info on the Daytona 200 Memorial can be found at:

http://www.daytonavintageracing.com/daytona200memorial.html
and http://www.abevv.com/daytonamemorial.html

In todays afternoon Pro Bike race, Ohio Yamaha rider Charlie Mullins won his very first GNCC, followed by Barry Hawk and Jimmy Jarrett. KTM rider David Knight looked strong, but a badly bent front wheel on the last lap slowed his efforts to make it up on the podium.

All of the weekends results can be found at: http://www.racerbanners.com/results/gncc/2007/class_list.asp?r=6

The event Race Report will be up in a day or two at: http://www.gnccracing.com/racereports/

That is pretty cool those guys did Penton graphics for their bikes. If you ask me, I think all KTM 200s should be Jackpiner blue like that anniversary edition they did.

Gary, Thanks for all that. The winner on a 2-stroke - that's nice, I guess they're not obsolete.

That's odd, I did'nt see those pictures last night when I posted the above. Very cool graphics. Okay, I see John and Jack there. Looks like a really fun event. Thanks again, Bob

Here's two trivia questions:

The young man that Jack and John are talking to in this picture is the son of a former National Champion. Can you name the father and son?

The number 37 in this photo is ridden by the son of another former National Champion. Can you also name this father and son?

Rob,

You're ΒΌ correct. You got two of the names right, but the names to the wrong photo. Try again.

I just gotta comment on this !! Gary, thanks for sharing all this with us guys up North, competition at its best !! I just Love the pics, hopefully someday I can make it to this race. Soon!

Now are the racers getting younger? or are we already that much older? I can honestly say I havent missed much trail riding in the last 30 years,(every weekend, seasonably of course)
We may be getting older, but that 07 KTM 200 sure makes me feel like a real fast kid, again !! (no advil required) [8D]
Bob, maple seasons over now, where getting ready for this years black fly crop !!
BTW can we order the Penton graphics by chance??

Gary,
Okay, Jack and John are talking with Aaron Plessinger...and good ol' number 37 is Kailub Russell, son of 1991 AMA Natl. Enduro Champion, Jeff Russell. KTM.

Rob,

You are correct!

And you get extra credit for mentioning the Lojacks. Multi-time National Champion Eddie Lojak, Sr. was on hand to watch his son, Eddie Jr., compete on his Yamaha.

So don't be suprised if you see a Plessinger, Russell, or a Lojack on the podium in the next few years.
