Title: Jackpiner kicker problems
Post by: rokoncarl on May 31, 2007, 11:15:32 AM
i have a 73 jackpiner with a kicker problem it will not catch. Put a new stop bolt in and unwound spring 1 revolution and kicker was working for about 20-30 kicks and now we are back to the same problem as before. Anybody else ever seen or had this problem before? i will appreciate any comments or suggestions, thanks Rokoncarl

IF YOU REPLACED THE KICKSTARTER BOLT AND UNWOUND THE KICKSTARTER SPRING. I AM SURE IT DIDN'T CETCH IT RIGHT. THE ONLY RIGHT WAY TO DO IT IS TO SPLIT THE CASES. IF YOU NEED THIS DONE I CAN DO IT. HOPE THIS WILL HELP. LATER GARY

Another item to check is the kick starter shaft itself.  Sometimes they get worn on the splined portion where the spring, ratchet wheel are assembled and don't allow things to slide easily.  This will cause things to hang up and not allow the teeth to mesh properly.  Different crankcase lube can help if real lucky (Bel Ray Gear Saver 75wt, 2 QT) but if not, you will have to split the cases and investigate.  Good time to replace seals and gaskets too!  Hope it is an easy fix!
