I need a early 80's KTM 125 fiberglass gas tank for my 1979 KTM 420. I was told this would solve the yellowing plastic gas tank problem and could be made to fit.
To my knowledge, all of the tanks were plastic starting in 1979. I am not sure if one of the earlier fiberglass tanks could be made to fit. I imagine it would require removal of the posts on the side of the backbone that the front rubber tank bumpers mount to.
Phil Ketchum forwarded me an email this morning about a coating for inside of the the plastic tank to alleviate the problem of paint and decals peeling, but the cost to coat the tank was $ 105.00 Mike

I enjoy rebuilding and appreciating Pentons!

I heard about a product from Italy also. It just sucks to restore a 420 and have a yellow gas tank. If you go to Al's site under KTM parts is a picture of mine. I'm considering selling it, I love KTM's and raced them newer one's. Parts are the tuff part of owning one. But I have a real warm spot for 1978 thru 1981 Can-am's Orange Crush. Thanks

I know a guy in Oklahoma sold a 80-81 KTM 250 on eBay acouple of years back that had an 81 KTM 125MX Fiberglass tank on it..Looked pretty cool..Good luck on the 420..Buddy:D
