Title: Sprocket size for 250
Post by: chuck on June 12, 2007, 10:05:09 AM
I'm refurbishing a 74 250 Hare Scramble. It currently has 13/52 sprockets. I will be riding primarily MX with an occasional cross country.

What do you recommend?

Thanks

I like 14/52 or thereabouts. 1st gear is so low that it's really not used in MX and 14/52 still works good for 2nd gear starts from my experience.

Believe it or not, which carb you are using actually does make a difference.... when I was still using a bing on my 76 250, I did use the 13/52 combo but when I went to a mikuni I needed to bump the countershaft sprocket up to a 14  because I found my self shifting too much and I was not using all of the power band, only the top part of the band. by making the change, It pulled better from the bottom end and it pulled longer and this all ended up in faster lap times... food for thought...
