Hi guys,
I'm sorry I haven't been on very much this year. The inmates are running the prison around my place lately, it seems. Hope all is well with everyone.
See you here more this summer.
Have a good one!
ps - I have been making a little progress on my Steeltanker. I'll post some pics in the next fews days.

Remember Larry, 20 minutes a day working on your project will eventually get er done !! I even consider an hour ordering parts a positive accomplishment[8D]
I've built 9 Pentons, working on them an hour here, a phone call there, a road trip way over yonder...

Hi Raymond,
Thanks! The worst thing is when you think you have EVERYTHING gathered, and then discover that you are lacking THIS, and the THAT is the the wrong year or model, yada yada yada.
You're so right - the key is to chip away at it.
here are several pics of my project - I just had to put on some of the most visible finished pieces to relive my teen years for an afternoon ... long way to go, but Lordy these bikes were special.
A comment - I wouldn't even be to square one with Carbaugh's help. Thanks Ron!

Ron helps a whole lot of people out quietly behind the scenes. He's a good friend and an asset to the group.;)

You know Larry if I remember right you haven't been heard from since that Boise State game. Glad your back.

Rod,
yeah, the psych doctor just allowed me to go outside last week - haha. That was one of the most entertaining games I've ever seen, and truthfully, I'm glad Boise State won. It made it a fairy tale ending. Of course, a bunch of fellow OU fans have looked at me like I was insane when I say I'm glad Boise State won, but for posterity it made the best story.
I had a 'wanted' item - a rubber boot connecting the Bing carb with the Steeltanker airbox - post. But I've found a solution, and wanted to share it with everyone. I used an item I found at Loews, and with a little help from an exacto knife, it fit/works perfectly. It's called a Drain & Trap Connector, 1.25" x 1.5" flexible PVC. Made by American Valve, #RDTC40x32 23479. Color is gray. I've enclosed a link to a pic of it installed.

Larry,
You've been very busy on the bike since I saw it last Monday. Glad you were able to find something that worked to mount the airbox to the carb. The bike is looking great !! Talk to you later.

Larry,
Nice job...I will call you tomorrow on the other part.
Ron Carbaugh
All I can say is wow Larry !! it sure looks good from the pics [8D]
I should send you pics of my steel tanker, it runs fine and shifts great, but it hasent had any cosmetic surgery in 37 years !! I've done a bunch of work on the interior of the bike. But the exterior..
eeh gads !!
You've come a long ways with yours ;)
perfect !

Hi Larry, nice job on the steel tanker! I'm working on a project also, for Mid-Ohio, and would like to know how you made the link to post your pictures? Do you have to have them posted on a website somewhere first, or can I just have them on my computer? Many thanks in advance,
Mick
Mick,
They have to be posted to a website, like Flikr, or Photobucket, or any place like that. Once you have them uploaded copy and paste the URL address into the e-mail message, (using the button called "Insert Hyperlink".)
The way to make pictures appear INSIDE the post is to have them posted onto a file area (such as a personal website) that you can link to the e-mail message (using the button called "Insert Image".)
Phil
Thanks Raymond [8D]
I should be ready to try and start the bike sometime this month. Engine rebuilt by Doug, new carb, PVL ignition ... if I haven't screwed something up, it should start right up ;)
I put the rear wheel on, and it was pretty noticeably askew (not lined up with the frame, and certainly not allowing clearance for the chainguard (I had new Metzelers put on, and they're bigger than the original rear, even though I got the smallest new tire they had). Dave McCullough dropped by to eyeball it, suggested I adjust the spokes to pull the rim to the gearshift side of the bike. I took his advice, adjusted the spokes on the rear wheel Saturday, and not only does it line up very well now in the swingarm, there is even enough clearance room for
the chainguard - but it's cloooose. So they're both on the bike and look great. I'll upload some pics this week. I couldn't believe how much the wheel could be pulled over by adjusting the spokes (loosen one side, tighten the other).
Next I tackle the fenders (measure, cut, drill, and file).
Yes, please provide some pics of your ST.

Ok, 1970 Steeltanker 125cc for review. Still lack tank bag and center stand, otherwise done. It runs, too - sounds like an angel (thanks, Doug!).
One of the most satisfying things I've done - thank you to everyone (especially Ron) for your help and patience.

Larry,
Your bike looks fabulous !! You did a great job and I can't wait to see it in person !! You can't relax quite yet though because now it's time to get the Jackpiner ready for New Blaine in October. Talk to you soon.

But you did all the hard work and Doug builds GREAT engines. Congratulations.

Dave,
No rest for the weary. And I wouldn't be close to being finished without all of your help and advice - thank you!!!
