Title: 1974.5 250 Enduro F/S going to Mid-Ohio
Post by: 454MRW on July 13, 2007, 11:10:07 AM
Although I hate to say it, I am prepping the 1974 1/2 red tank 250 that I bought in Arkansas last year to take to Mid-Ohio for sale, and I thought I would offer it here first. It was a fairly complete old bike except for the wrong seat, and the wrong ehaust pipe, with headlight and Falk rear fender with factory CEV taillight which both worked when I bought it and another (76 MC5 125) bike together with some parts. The owner had it for some time and hadn't run either bikes for a long time. I took it home and put fuel in it and it started and ran good right off the bat. I put a new air filter in it and had been riding it around until I traded off the incorrect pipe. It has as much power as my somewhat fresh 78 MX-6 250, but the clutch slips when the power band comes on. Even so, it will still loft the front wheel easily with a twist of the throttle and runs clean to high RPMS. It doesn't idle without holding the throttle, but I haven't touched the Bing carb, but I would think it probably needs crank seals. I am installing some good used clutch plates this weekend that Tom B. sold me, and I just hadn't had the time to put in until now. I took the bike to the ISDTRR last year as a backup bike, even with the weak clutch, but didn't need it. Even after sitting out in the rain and in the Par Farme, for over 2 days, it fired right up. The only real problem with the bike is the rear brake hangs up a little, (Probably needs shoes), the swing arm bushings are loose, and the bolt seems frozen, so it will require some patience and work to fix it up right. I don't have the right pipe for it, but I have a MC5 pipe that may fit. I currently have too much work and too little time. I am keeping the headlight and tail light for my 175, but will leave the mounting ears on and install a good used PP headlight and PP rear fender/tailight in their place. If an POG member is interested I am asking $ 800.00 and can send pics, and free delivery to Mid-Ohio or anywhere along the way from middle Eastern Illinois RTE 70 to there on Wednesday July, 25th 2007. Thanks, Mike. [email protected] or hm # 618-793-2200. cell # 618-553-1346.

Mike,
If you don't sell it here for what you are asking, I will ask around down here since complete running 250 Pentons are hard to find.  Let me know.

ChicagoJerry, if you don't buy it, I'll be interested in it.  It will make a good backup for the one that I bought from you. Please send some pics to [email protected] if ChicagoJerry isn't interested.

Thanks,

Marc Hodge

The first person who responded to my listing has expressed the desire to purchase this bike, so unless he backs out, please consider it sold. If things change, I will let the next in line and so on know. Thanks for the interest and I will send pics to all that responded. Mike
